Top soil is a loam-based soil blend, often combining sand or clay with organic compost, to promote healthy root growth.  Due to its high organic matter content, top soil is ideal for creating new garden beds and borders, replacing old soil, levelling lawns and making compost.

Suregreen can supply top soil as both handy bagged top soil and bulk bags:

Top soil is ideal for use with our railway sleepers, raised bed kits and planters – to create the ideal growing conditions for fruit, vegetables and other plants.

The benefits of applying topsoil to your garden:

  • Nutrient-rich: Topsoil is often rich in nutrients, as it is the layer of soil that has been most exposed to the elements and is therefore more likely to have a diverse range of microorganisms present. These microorganisms help to break down organic matter, making nutrients more readily available to plants.
  • Improved soil structure: Topsoil can help to improve the structure of the soil in your garden, making it more aerated and able to retain water. It also helps to reduce compaction, allowing for better root growth. As a result, plants are able to take up water and nutrients more efficiently, leading to healthier growth.
  • Erosion control: Topsoil can help to prevent erosion by providing a layer of protection for the soil beneath it. When it rains, topsoil absorbs water and helps to prevent it from washing away the soil below. This is especially important on slopes or in areas prone to erosion.

It is an important component of a healthy and thriving garden, and incorporating it into your gardening practices can help to create a more sustainable and productive ecosystem.
