Whilst all of our railway sleepers are highly versatile for landscaping projects, our UC4 treated railway sleepers are ideal for more specialist applications where a long-lasting solution is required for ground contact. Typical applications include retaining walls and raised beds.
UC4, also known as Use Class 4, is a standard of treatment given to timber to make it suitable for permanent contact with the ground. The timber is first kiln-dried to reduce the moisture content of the wood and to allow deeper penetration of the subsequent application of preservative treatment.
