Galvanised Straining Line Wire is manufactured from steel, and is galvanised with a zinc coating to help it withstand the elements, resist rust and corrosion, and remain strong. The wire is used to ensure that the top of fence netting/mesh is tensioned and taut, providing strength to help prevent damage by animals or vandals. This wire is also available with a PVC coating so you can use it with PVC-coated fencing.
This straining line wire can be used with:
- Chain link fencing
- Rabbit fencing
- Hexagonal wire fencing
- Stock fencing
- Welded wire mesh fencing
- Plastic garden mesh fencing
The wire is hot dipped galvanised, or PVC coated both of which are fully protected from the elements, however please bear in mind that any cuts made in to the steel may rust where the new metal is exposed, please ensure to protect these cut ends with galvanised spray or paint.
Wire gauges explained –
10 gauge wire is approx. 3mm thick
12 gauge wire is approx. 2.5mm thick
14 gauge wire is approx. 2mm thick
15 gauge wire is approx. 1.8mm thick
We advise that gloves are worn when handling this wire.
For high fences, two or more line wires should be used to ensure that the fence has enough strength.
A fencing tensioning tool should be used to ensure that the mesh is taut and at its optimum tension. The fencing mesh wire filaments should be connected to the line wire using hog rings, using a hog ring tool to apply them. The line wire should be fixed to the timber fencing posts using galvanised U-nails.
